Essex County League: Ilford v Jacks, January 2024

There were mixed fortunes for Ilford against Jacks in the second match of the Essex County League. Twenty-one ends can make for a long match so a good or a bad start isn’t everything in these games, but the trend for the away teams was set early with one rink failing to score a point in the first six ends, the second rink scoring on the first end before hitting a drought, but the third rink consistently scoring and staying ahead.

With the overall results looking set with two rinks winning at home and one rink winning away, the only thing left to play for was the overall points total. And with three rinks still playing at Jacks it was looking like a close finish, but one rink picking up ten points in three ends the points all square at 115-115 with only two rinks still playing.

The second losing rink picked up three on the last end, meaning that the rink that was ahead could afford to drop four and still win the overall. They dropped a two, winning the rink and Ilford took the bonus point for the overall score.
