County & National Competitions

A female bowler being presented with her Essex County badge - at the age of 92!

Entry to county and national competitions is through the club and occurs towards the end of the season, ready to start the following year.

Country competition info is available on the Essex County Indoor Bowling Association website and includes Champion of Champion pairs and singles (which are only available to the winners of the club titles), plus triples and fours in gents, ladies and mixed competitions which are open to all club members. The Unbadged Singles is open to any player who does not have a county badge, which means it’s a good competition for newer bowlers – although, as with the club’s Consolation Singles, the standard is still high and you can expect some tough matches.

National competitions are managed through the England Indoor Bowling Association Competitions Portal, and include singles, pairs and various triples and fours competitions.

Fixtures will either be at home or away and in national competitions the early rounds are played more locally i.e. you won’t have to travel hundreds of miles to play a match (although sometimes east Essex can feel like it’s hundreds of miles away…)
